Panna National Park is the only significant forest reserve left in the northern part of Madhya Pradesh, the state that boasts of largest forest area in the country and is well-known for its association with Project Tiger. Covering Panna and Chhatarpur Districts of the state, the park also acts as a geographical division between South India tropical and subtropical forests and North India moist deciduous forests. Panna tiger safari is a splendid trip not only to explore Panna wildlife, but also to enjoy other aspects of beautiful landscape.
Panna tiger safari can be enjoyed in jeeps or on elephants. While elephant trips are organized by the authorities, there are no jeeps or other four-wheelers available and one must book a jeep, station wagon or mini bus from the local operators.
The total of 1,645 square km. of Panna National Park is divided into 542 square km. of core and 1,002 square km. of buffer area. The park located in Vindhya Range is fed by the meandering River Ken which adds to Panna wildlife through Ken Ghariyal Sanctuary. Streams, waterfalls, gorges and dense forests beautify the park and are a visual treat during Panna tiger safari tours.
